Description

We are excited to present an outerwear collaboration with fellow made-in-USA brand Krammer & Stoudt.  The collaboration uses a bomber jacket pattern developed by Krammer & Stoudt interpreted with a fabric familiar to American Trench: water repellent 100% cotton Ventile cloth, woven in the UK since 1943 from American grown and spun Supima cotton.  The American Trench version of the garment is presented in dark navy rip-stop ventile with silver zippers.  The Krammer & Stoudt version is presented in olive drab rip-stop with antique brass zippers.

Additional details include quilted poly-fill insulation for warmth, an interior button pocket, a minimalist interpretation of the MA-1 style pocket on the sleeve (large enough to fit an iPhone 6S) and high quality zippers by UCAN zippers, made in Los Angeles.

Fabric

The exterior facing fabric of the American Trench is 100% cotton Ventile fabric, woven in the same mill in the UK since 1943. This particular version of Ventile is a new development: rip-stop.  It takes all of the same great water repellent properties of the plain weave version but adds extra heft, durability, and subtle texture of a ripstop weave.  Ventile was originally developed in WWII to use as flight suits for British pilots to survive North Atlantic seas. Ventile is densely woven from American grown and spun extra long staple (ESL) Supima cotton, and the tightness of the weave creates a water repellent fabric. When the fibers get wet they swell and close.  There is an additional DWR coating on the fabric - a modern twist that increases surface tension (beading effect) but does not inhibit breathability.  In simple terms, Ventile is the best of all worlds - it has a rich natural look that comes from yarn dyed cotton and in terms of performance, it will repel hurricanes and massive rain storms but also keep you from turning into a sweaty mess because of the excellent vapor permeability of the fabric.   We love the fabric and our proud to make it a focal point of this garment.
